NOOSA RIVER

One of the best things about Noosa is Noosa River.

Whether you use it to access The Frypan near the mouth of the river, where you’ll find fascinating tiny blue crabs running across the sands, making their classic ‘snap, crackle and pop’ sound on the sand, be lucky and see the smaller stingrays buried in the sand in the shallow water or to discover the river system which leads up to some wide open lakes,
perfect for fishing or throwing in a crab pot,
everyone will find something they love.

Boat hire on the river is varied from the practical party pontoons with shade & BBQ, perfect when you have kids who want to move around to the smaller tinny's,
many which have shade.

Pick up some fishing gear (a hand line will do) and
have a go at catching a Mangrove Jack. Take some Sausages as back up in case he outwits you on your trip!

If you are heading out on the river some things to pack are

·        Esky or cooler bag for drinks and food

·        Drinks for everyone (more water than sugar drinks which may dehydrate)

·        Snacks or lunch – pick up a hamper from Belmondos

·        Sunscreen – 15 or 30 Plus – available from the pharmacy or local store

·        Wear long sleeve light shirts if possible (Babes in the Shade rash shirts are prefect for the kids)

·        Swimming Costumes

·        Camera to capture some fun

Safety First

·        When on a boat or kayak, ensure all your kids wear life jackets (can be purchased from BCF or your boat hire service may provide them).

·        Always be aware of where your children are and what they are doing.
Do not allow them to stand on the outside of boats.

·        Sunscreen – apply before leaving accommodation and reapply regularly for maximum protection

·        If walking in the shallow waters wear waterproof rubber based shoes (e.g. crocs) for some protection from wildlife living in the sand. It’s very rare, but we have had an occasion where we came close to a small sting ray. If they come towards, you, just step our of their way.
Do not prod, poke or harass them in any way.
Just feel lucky you have seen one in the wild.

If you’d just like to explore the river from the waters edge,
head for the Noosa Marina where you’ll find a great market atmosphere on Sundays, complete with live music –
or during the week, just to wander through the eclectic selection of stores and revive over lunch at
one of the tasty eateries.

You will find variety with Fish and Chips,
bistro dining to the wonderful Trios, where Julie and her team will take extra special care of the whole family.
Our kids love the fish tank at the door, we are sure you will find their service quick and courteous too.
